Welcome to my site, dedicated to hiking in the beautiful Ramapo Mountains and Highlands region in northern New Jersey and southern New York. Our local mountains offer a variety of hiking experiences, from old carriage paths and woods roads to rugged, rocky footpaths. Remnants of the area's rich history abound, as do views of lakes, waterfalls and panoramic ridge-top vistas. Whether you join a guided group hike or explore on your own, I hope you enjoy the experience!

Hiking EssentialsWhat to Bring
For my group hikes & other group/guided hikes (under 4 hrs) - WATER! Up to 1 liter/qt per hour recommended; also electrolyte drink - Food: trail mix/salty snack, protein/energy bar, nuts, fruit - Backpack or fanny pack - ID, emergency contact, list of medications & allergies Other Suggestions (longer hikes or when hiking without a guide) - Extra food and water - Trail map, guide book, compass, GPS - First aid kit (include mandatory medications) - Bug spray - apply to skin, spray on clothes, boots, hat - Sunscreen, sunglasses, lip balm - Cell phone, whistle, mirror, flashlight, lighter/matches/firestarter - Camera, binoculars, multi-tool - TP, tissues/napkins, moist towelettes, hefty bag, bright bandanna What to Wear - Dress in layers - moisture-wicking shirt for base layer (not cotton); long pants tucked in to socks (to prevent ticks) - As needed - windbreaker/jacket/rain poncho, hat, gloves - Hiking boots or trail shoes with good tread (no sneakers) - Hiking socks to control moisture, prevent blisters, protective cushion Don't Get Lost! A Little About Me...

I'm an experienced local hiking guide, leading group hikes and providing classroom instruction through the Emerson, New Jersey Adult Community School since 2004. I'm First Aid & CPR certified, and a member of the NY-NJ Trail Conference, Appalachian Mountain Club and American Hiking Society.
